Part Time Registered Nurse

(11 month position)

To provide services in accordance with health and safety regulations to all students and staff and to administer medications and first aid when necessary under the direction of the Certified School Nurse (CSN).

QUALIFICATIONS

(REQUIRED):
• NJ State Registered Nurse License
• ADN or higher in Nursing
• First Aid Certified
• CPR Certified
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

(PREFERRED):
• Substitute School Nurse Certification

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform all duties under the direction and supervision of the Certified School Nurse (CSN).
• Provide special health care and related services to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
• Assist CSN with maintaining/updating student health records to comply with state mandates.
• Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
• Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Support CSN with conducting state required health screening programs.
• Administer medications to students during the school day, as needed, with records of parent and physician authorizations on file.
• Help CSN with the creation and maintenance of a list (Medic-Alert) of all students with health problems and distribute copies to all faculty.
• Assist CSN with maintaining a current student allergy list and distribute to all staff including food service staff.
• Attends Community Based Instruction or other trips when needed, verifies appropriate emergency medications are brought to trips. Verifies students who require a nurse, ride on the nurse bus. For students with epi-pens, verifies the epi-pen delegate is on trip and has epi-pen or that the student is on the nurse bus. Carries trip binder with student and staff emergency forms/contacts.
• When assisting with trips, verify trip folders for each program are up to date with:
• Medical alert list
• Current copy of each IHP
• Nurse bus list
• Packs/unpacks/transports medications ordered for students attending trip
• Verifies students attending trip and identifies those who need medication brought
• Carries first aid kit
• Carries trip binder
• Maintain an emergency staff binder with forms for each staff member in the building.
• Cover the office if the CSN or appropriate substitute is not available.
• Promote healthy/safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe and sanitary conditions throughout the school. Report problems promptly to the principal.
• Assist in the secure storage of medications, monitor expiration dates and appropriately dispose of medications as necessary.
• Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.
• Assist CSN in maintaining equipment and supplies in the nursing office and classrooms
• Comply with all policies and procedures of Spectrum360.
• Follow all recommendations of administration.
• Follow all directives of the Executive Director/CEO and Principal, correcting areas relating to performance identified by immediate supervisor.
• The duties of Employee may require that employees have the physical strength, stamina, flexibility and capacity to assist in lifting a student, who will vary from the ages of three (3) to twenty-one (21), and may be unable to ambulate or transfer and in some instances resist movement.
